Pauline Daniels celebrates 21 years performing Shirley Valentine!
St Helens Theatre Royal and Regal Entertainments Ltd are proud to announce the only 2012 UK performances of Willy Russell’s Shirley Valentine at St Helens Theatre Royal. Reprising her role is one of the all-time great Shirley’s and Liverpool Comedian Pauline Daniels. This will be Pauline’s 21st anniversary performing the role of Mrs Valentine and is celebrating in St Helens from Thu 13 – Sun 16 September 2012. Actress Pauline Daniels has undeniably made this role her own, and continues to perform the role in a way every woman can relate too.
Actress Pauline Daniels said “I have played this role every year for the last 20 years and it’s the perfect venue for a perfect piece to celebrate my 21st year, I'm really looking forward to bringing my best friend Shirley to St Helens.”
Living in a world of kitchens, cooking and faded dreams Shirley is living a monotone and regretful existence, but when best friend Jane offers her a two week holiday in Greece, she struggles to make a life-changing decision. Should she pack her bags and head for a life of sun, sea and taramasalata or stay and continue to endure the slog of her humdrum life?
Since its premier in 1986 Shirley Valentine has become a theatrical institution and a much loved mainstay on the boards of playhouses across the globe. For Pauline’s 21st anniversary, Willy Russell has given Pauline special permission to take to the production to the stage and bring this Liverpudlian legend back home to Merseyside this September. The only UK dates in 2012.
Bursting with traditional Scouse wit Shirley Valentine is a revival of a much loved one-woman show about a jaded housewife’s journey of self discovery which continually brings new generations of audiences to enjoy. With the definitive Shirley taking to the stage for FIVE performances only this is guaranteed to be a performance you won’t want to miss out on.
